    The USD 413 Foundation manages five dedicated scholarships for graduating Chanute High School seniors, honoring the legacies of educators, alumni, and community leaders who shaped this place.

    Eligibility

    Our Foundation-managed scholarships are exclusively available to graduating seniors of Chanute High School. Each scholarship has specific criteria — from pursuing agriculture to continuing in music or STEM fields.

    • Must be a graduating CHS senior
    • Must meet specific scholarship criteria
    • Must plan to attend post-secondary education

    How to Apply

    Applications for all Foundation-managed scholarships are handled through the Chanute High School Counseling Office. Deadlines are typically in early spring.

    Herb & Randy Correll Memorial Scholarship

    $500·Band student continuing in music

    A father-and-son legacy of Chanute music. Originally established in memory of Herb Correll for a graduating band student continuing into music studies, the scholarship was renamed in February 2026 to honor Herb's son Randy after his passing. Two generations, one love of music, one Chanute classroom they both poured into.

    L. Keith Maring Memorial Scholarship

    $500·Math, engineering, or related STEM field

    Keith Maring grew up in Chanute, served his country in the military, and came home to teach math at CHS — shaping a generation of Blue Comet students in the process. The Maring family's roots deep here, and this scholarship continues that legacy by helping a graduating senior pursue a future in math, engineering, or a related STEM field.

    Marion Lee Bailey Memorial FFA Scholarship

    $500·Active FFA member minoring or majoring in agriculture

    Marion Lee Bailey (1938–2017) grew up on the family farm in rural Chanute, attended a rural elementary school and Royster Junior High, and graduated from CHS in 1956 — where he served as 1955–56 FFA class president. He spent more than 75 years farming this land. Established in December 2018 by Mrs. Charlene Bailey Scott, Monty, and Mike Bailey in his memory, this scholarship honors a graduating senior who is an active member of the Chanute FFA and pursuing agriculture in college.

    Melvin Owen Scholarship

    Melvin Owen's family established this scholarship to honor his memory and his lifelong love of music. It's awarded to a Chanute High School senior continuing into post-secondary education.

    Stan Luebbering Memorial Scholarship

    Varies·Construction or building trades student attending Neosho County Community College

    Stan Luebbering founded Advanced Systems Homes in Chanute and spent his career building homes — and a legacy — in this community. This scholarship continues that work by helping a Chanute graduate pursue construction or the building trades at NCCC, the same kind of hands-on path Stan believed in.
